When we break down the meaning of divine we find it is to perceive intuitively or through some inexplicable perceptive powers and having the nature of a god. Originally from the east coast of Canada this Jamaican / Canadian Emcee has sought after arts almost her entire life, and with the creators guidance her prays are being answered.
At the age of nine Ms. D started to participate in her schools children’s choir, this is where she started to develop her passion for singing. Year after year her skills really started to take shape. Music had always been a release for Ms. D a way to harness her aspirations, imagination and losses. By the age of fifteen her love for music had become so intense that it embedded a mark deep within her soul. She began to write poetry, which would later developed into song writing skills. Ms. D’s desire led her down a path of following her dreams.
Now, on a road to following her dreams Ms. Divine crossed paths with west coast hip hop promoter and radio personality John Z. After 2 years of only phone contact Ms. D’s heart persuaded her to get on a greyhound with very little monies ($200), little did she know this five day journey would lead to more then a love affair. This adventure would also open doors to the official beginning to her musical career.
Taking her main influences from the big man upstairs and all his creations and natural inspiration to guide her life, she also took musical inspiration from Mary J. Bliege, Eryka Badu, Bob Marley, Etta James and many more old school soul, R&B and reggae inspirations. Ms. Divine has drawn from these influences to come up with her own unique sound; This Diva is a triple threat! She may be shy natured, but she possesses the ability to throw down a rhyme, serenade a track with her defined R&B style or take it back to her roots and hold it down rude girl style with a reggae flow.
Ms. D has had the opportunity to collaborate and perform alongside Midnight of the (Telepathics) D. Dose, Mass & Lucas Homegrown Inc., and many other west coast Canadian hip-hop acts in the Vancouver area.
With the completion of her debut solo album “ME MYSELF AND MS.DIVINE,” she has had the opportunity to appear on various projects including: Pudfluff and SteeLos presents The Next Best Thing, LP. The Mic Prizada Project (Fatty down of D- Dose ) and as well as appearing on many tracks on the debut album from Homegrown Records, First Crop. With her debut album being produced by local Hip hop underground legend SteeLos, Ms. Divine hopes to have a pleasant reception to the world with her Divine music creations.
